America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia was established in 1981 as a locally inspired, volunteer-driven non profit food bank. Our community-building organization serves twenty-one counties in southeastern Georgia with the mission of feeding hungry people and strengthening communities. The mission of the food bank is to feed the hungry by distributing nutritious food to non-profit agencies and at risk elderly and youth, to assist in disaster relief, and work towards long term solutions to end the cycle of poverty and hunger. Our statement of purpose is "Utilizing food and education to improve lives and create a hunger-free community".

Ribbon Cutting: Community Kitchen

Today we celebrated the fruits of all the hard work, labor, sacrifices, and generosity of the staff at America's Second Harvest of Coastal GA, the contractors and workers that helped make this possible, including Lynch Architects & JT Turner Construction, as well as all of our gracious supporters and contributors to our efforts.

The brand new Community Kitchen, located at the food bank's property on President St. in Savannah, GA will play a key role in utilizing food and education to create a hunger-free community. The kitchen is named in honor of Grace Neises, a long-time supporter and initiator in the community, who's husband Jack was there to receive the recognition on behalf of his wife who passed away this year.

The Capital Campaign, "Recipe for Hope," that was created to fund the building of the Community Kitchen is close to fruition! We seek public support to raise the remaining $150,000 by December 31st, 2010 which will allow us to utilize the $200,000 Kresge Challenge Grant. Please consider making a small donation to help us reach or goal.
